Research profile

I lead the Matter-Antimatter Asymmetry (MAM) section of HIM and am also part of the QUANTUM group in Physics. Our group’s primary interest is fundamental physics; however, since we develop techniques for sensitive measurement and analysis, we also venture into applied research, including that related to biophysics. For example, we have recently succeeded in measuring magnetic fields produced by action potentials in plants and developed a method for sensitive detection of biologically relevant chiral molecules. We have collaborated with faculty members at the University Clinic (to measure magnetic fields of human subjects undergoing transcranial magnetic stimulation), MPIC (to analyze atmospheric compounds of biological relevance), and are part of the Emergent AI center, working on new approaches to data analysis. We have also developed novel magnetic-resonance techniques, the so-called zero- to ultralow-field nuclear magnetic resonance (ZULF NMR).
